Next Generation Therapies: Options for Coverage, Access and Affordability in Massachusetts
The year 2018 was a watershed for medicine in Massachusetts. The first patient treated with an FDA-approved gene therapy was treated in Boston. The first therapy based on RNA interference was approved – based in part on Nobel Prize winning research at UMass Medical School. These are only two examples of what is expected to be an oncoming wave of potentially transformative, and even curative, biopharmaceuticals that will be approved in coming years. The problem? Our payer system is not set up to absorb the costs of these therapies. This event will explore the recommendations from a soon-to-be-released paper that was the result of a collaboration, supported by MassBio and facilitated by the Network for Excellence in Health Innovation (NEHI), between leading payers, providers and biopharma industry professionals to devise new ways of ensuring access and coverage for next generation therapies. Drinks and appetizers will be provided. *Space is limited.
