This MassBioEd four-session, intensive online course is designed to help scientists and technical experts confidently develop and deliver persuasive messaging to investors, policymakers, employers, the public, and other key stakeholders to concisely convey the real-world value of their work. Participants learn how to communicate their science to non-experts in relatable terms without sacrificing accuracy. This training provides participants with the ability to present a cohesive narrative about the relevance and impact of their work and translate complex scientific concepts into accessible and broadly understood ideas. Tested and proven techniques are taught to uncover an audience's level of understanding and enable customized tailoring of a presentation to connect with listeners.

Offered over the duration of four weeks, this course provides:

-Insider techniques for researching audiences and concisely describing the importance of your science in ways that resonate with specific listeners, who then gain understanding and support for your work.
-How to boil down explanations of your science to the essentials, enabling you to communicate in various formats, so you can increase your likelihood of funding support while preserving accuracy.
-Methodology for answering the “Why should they care?” question about your work, using role-playing and true-to-life training that will build your confidence and raise your comfort level when communicating, regardless of your audience.

This interactive course is formatted to include:

-A 15-minute, one-on-one consulting call with the course instructor after completion of group sessions to ask any specific communications questions relevant to your particular circumstances.
-Time-efficient at-home exercises to reinforce major learnings.
-Role-playing exercises to learn, practice, and master the presentation of your science to important stakeholders.
-Student self-recording of video exercises and specific feedback to refine your content and delivery.
