Diseases knows no borders and do not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, nationality, or immigration status. Consciously or unconsciously, some organizations in biopharma do. Longstanding and systemic racism divides us, advantaging white Americans at the expense of everyone else. Our workplaces are microcosms of society. The contagious disease of hate and bigotry is spreading. We must stand together with the victims of murder, marginalization, and repression because of their skin color. It’s important to recognize and create awareness that this trend is happening, so it can be stopped. We will discuss the importance of instilling and inspiring hope, meaning, belonging, and motivation consistently throughout our organizations and in the life science industry. We will also talk about: Signs that racism is an issue in your workplace and firing toxic leaders; How are we minimizing the role that racism plays in the persistent struggles and inequities in the workplace of those from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups?; Are organizations grasping the degree to which members of different communities are affected by prejudice or heightened insecurity?; Examining how social distance, crisis, sickness, health, and safety are viewed and experienced by different groups in the workplace and how organizations can demonstrate support of their employees and ensure that they are valued and protected.
