The Future of the State of Possible Amidst Rapid Expansion
In 2021, Massachusetts biotech companies received $13.66 billion in venture capital funding. Combined with a successful IPO market in past years, our industry has the capital on-hand for significant growth. At the same time, companies are facing on-going hiring challenges at all levels but especially for experienced talent. This panel of experts from industry and academia will explore what Massachusetts needs to do both short- and longer-term to address the workforce gap so we can continue as the State of Possible for industry and for patients.

Innovative Leadership Award & Fireside Chat with Governor Deval Patrick
With over 84,000 people working in biopharma jobs across Massachusetts, our industry is a significant part of the state’s economy. Issues beyond drug pricing such as housing, transportation, education, and childcare have significant impacts on the ability for life sciences companies to hire and retain workforce. Making improvements in these areas is critical for the on-going success of our industry and for the economic prosperity of Massachusetts and its residents. In this fireside chat, the panelists will discuss the role that the life sciences industry has in these debates, the potential solutions to some of these issues, and more.
