Note: In observance of Columbus Day on October 12th, Make Shift Happen will take place Tuesday, October 13th

Join MassBio's Edie Stringfellow for a bi-weekly conversation on equity, diversity, inclusion and engagement, or as we like to call it, EDIE! This week, we will be joined by Rafael J. Grossmann, MD, FACS.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 – October 15. Given that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted Hispanic/Latinx communities, we must acknowledge the countless lives devastatingly affected from this community due to racism, hatred, and a public health crisis. We would like to take this time to recognize how this country has been made better by their work, dedication, and contributions to the advancement of science and biomedical research. We are honored to have world-renowned Rafael J. Grossmann, MD, FACS as our featured speaker for the Make Shift Happen program.

Join Edie and Dr. Grossmann for a discussion on:

Rafael’s journey from Caracas, Venezuela to being the world's first surgeon to use Google Glass during live surgery.
- His views and findings on innovation and futurism in Healthcare and Exponential Medicine.
- Platforms like EngageVR.io and VictoryXR are changing VRx; becoming the standard in the field; and disrupting medical education.
- Convergence of AI and biotech will revolutionize the entire healthcare system including the way drugs are discovered, how clinical trials are conducted, the methods physicians use to diagnose patients, and how patients are monitored and treated.

Webinar link will be emailed to participants the Friday before - you can also access it from the "Live Stream" tab below. This event is for members-only.

MassBio makes every effort to accommodate our entire community at each of our events. Please let us know at least 3 days in advance of the event if you require special accommodations, such as captioning.

Rafael J. Grossmann, MD, FACS is a full-time practicing surgeon with specialties in General, Trauma, Advanced Laparoscopic, Single Incision and Robotic Assisted Surgery. Dr. Grossman believes that being a full-time clinician and educator, with real patients and with a deep passion for innovation technology, gives him the singular advantage and the firm compromise to spread a message of how technology, applied in an intelligent manner, can re-shape our future in ways that we can only dream of. As a global speaker, Healthcare and Education technologist and futurist, he passionately preaches the message of "constructive disruption" of these industries by the intuitive, smart use of exponential technologies. Throughout his career, Rafael has focused on tapping the paradoxical power of technology to coexist with a better, more humane medical care. As a healthcare futurist, being a full-time practicing surgeon gives him the rare skills, qualities, and advantages to combine and enhance both passions. On June 20th, 2013, Rafael became the first doctor to ever use Google Glass during live surgery. Being a telemedicine, Global Health and Digital Medicine advocate, he is a strong believer in the power of technology to augment healthcare and education, to better connect providers and patients. He is absolutely convinced that innovation in healthcare technology, along with the current developments in Mobile and Wearable platforms, Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality, along with AI, Deep Learning, Blockchain, Nanotechnology, 3D printing and Robotics will exponentially improve healthcare connectivity, communication and data management, and result in more efficient, intuitive, less expensive and ultimately better and more empathic patient care and Medical Education, as well as improved Global Access to Healthcare.
