For September 2020, MassBio Make Shift Happen with ED&I is going to focus on Cancer Awareness Month due to the (6) cancer observations during the month in September (Childhood, Gynecological, Leukemia/Lymphoma, Ovarian, Prostate, Thyroid). We are also going to focus on prevention, treatments, awareness, testing, accessibility, health disparities, and diversifying the oncology workforce.


This week, and to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sep 15 - Oct 15), we will be joined by Timothy R. Rebbeck, Vincent L. Gregory, Jr. Professor of Cancer Prevention, Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health and Division of Population Sciences, Dana Farber Cancer Institute; and Ildemaro Gonzalez, Vice President, Chief Inclusion & Diversity Officer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute 

Join Edie, Timothy Rebbeck, PhD, and Ildemaro Gonzalez for a discussion on

- Addressing racial disparities in cancer treatment, community engagement and health literacy
- Increasing clinical trials enrollment for diverse patients
- Using telemedicine and telehealth in cancer care
- How cultural competency engenders trust and comfort in patients
- Addressing barriers and obstacles for Hispanic/Latinx compared to U.S. population being 18% Hispanic but only . . .
- 4% in biopharma management and 2% of biopharma board of directors self-identified as Hispanic
- 5.8% practicing oncologists self-identified as Hispanic

Vice President and Chief Inclusion & Diversity Officer, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI)
Ildemaro Gonzalez, Vice President and Chief Inclusion & Diversity Officer, joined Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) in 2019. He is a Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) leader with 20 years of experience and a successful track record designing and implementing innovative D&I strategies. In a domestic and global context, he works to align D&I with the strategic priorities of the organization and impact all aspects of the operation including both employee and patient experience. Ildemaro has served as the Chief Inclusion & Diversity Officer at Parkland Health and Hospital System; the Global Director of Inclusion and Philanthropy at Newell Rubbermaid; and the Managing Director, Diversity Strategy at the American Cancer Society- National Home Office. Ildemaro galvanized Executives and Board members around a common vision; leveraged partnerships with operational leaders for long term adoption of new D&I initiatives; and engaged employees in driving Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement outcomes. He earned an MBA from the J. Mack Robinson School of Business at Georgia State University, and his Bachelor of Business Administration from the Universidad Catolica Andres Bello, in Caracas, Venezuela. Ildemaro lives in Boston with his wife, Viviana, and their two sons.
